Burglar bars for every home

Mix and match burglar bars:Trellidor Retractable Security (open here for easy cleaning) with Trellidor Cottage Guard on either side of the door

Burglar bars protect more openings in a home than security gates, so choose carefully to avoid a muddle of metal spoiling your home’s facade. Trellidor has a lot of options on offer, from trellis gates for windows to roller shutters and security screens.

TRELLIS-STYLE BURGLAR BAR OPTIONS

Trellis-style burglar bars are still a good choice for most homes, and Trellidor has a good selection that takes into account the homeowner’s budget as well as their security risk profile.  At the top end of the scale are Trellidor Fixed Security and Trellidor Retractable Security. These both look like Trellidor Retractable Security gates but the difference is that ‘Fixed’ burglar bars don’t open whereas ‘Retractable’ ones do.

Both these ranges are fully framed for strengthening purposes and the sash is constructed from a double upright system, meaning there are both front and back upright bars for added strength.  Links connect and cross over three upright bars instead of two like most competitor products.  This not only adds strength to the burglar bar, but also ensures that Trellidor Retractable versions operate smoothly and easily.

At the lower end of the cost scale is the Trellidor Burglar Guard range.  These are semi-framed, single upright burglar bars that look very similar to Trellidor Fixed Security.  Depending on the size of the window, they can be designed with a horizontal strengthening bar, a single trellis or double trellis.

COTTAGE PANE BURGLAR BARS A SECURE OPTION

Trellidor Cottage Guard is another stylish burglar bar range.  It has few competitors in terms of strength because it is manufactured with unique reinforcing features inside these burglar bars.  This range can be made to match the size of cottage pane window openings so that you hardly notice they’re there.  The gaps, however, must remain within limits prescribed by insurance companies.

If you have large panes of glass in your windows, Trellidor Cottage Guard is the perfect way to protect them from an attempted break-in.  This burglar proofing creates a cottage pane effect and if powder coated to match your windows, they’ll be a visible deterrent to house robbers but won’t be too visually intrusive.

Contemporary security screens replace old fashioned burglar bars

Security screens are a sleek new alternative to conventional burglar bars and are designed to appeal to those who don’t want their burglar proofing to be too obvious.  The Trellidor Clear Guard range consists of a woven mesh screen framed in aluminium.  It is manufactured to the same style as your window and once fitted you hardly know it’s there because you see right through the screen.

Trellidor Clear Guard security screens allow in some air flow and light, allowing you to open up your glass windows on a hot day.  Let the screens to do their job of keeping out intruders as well as heat, wind and insects such as mosquitoes.

Shutters that double up as burglar bars

Shutters don’t have to be purely decorative.  Some, like Trellidor Rollerstyle, are made primarily as a security barrier but have the advantage of looking good too.  They’re manufactured from aluminium so are lighter than steel and are comparatively quiet to open and close.  The shutter box that they roll up into is very compact and can be recessed into a wall cavity or the ceiling.

Roller shutters can be rolled up completely out of sight when you don’t need them, opening up your home to the outside when it’s safe to do so.  When closed, these shutters lock down the windows, presenting a formidable obstacle to would-be intruders.  They can be manually operated or remote controlled using a hand-held or wall-mounted control panel.

Tips on choosing burglar bars

  • Choose burglar bars with the strength you need for that particular window.  It’s no good choosing cheap burglar bars for a high risk window.

  • You don’t have to stick to one burglar bar style with Trellidor.  Select the best product for each window and we’ll powder coat them to match each other and tie them together visually.

  •  Make sure you have a burglar bar that can open on at least one window so that you have a ready-made escape route in case of fire, flood or a hostage situation.
  • If budgets permit, it’s great to have burglar bars that open on all windows as window cleaning is so much easier.
